We are thrilled to announce that Josh Basham is joining the FutureProof Athlete Work Experience Program. This newly created 12-month initiative is designed to provide athletes with valuable experience across a diverse range of tasks and projects, enhancing skills that will significantly boost their employability. Josh will engage in areas such as project management, business development, and program design, focusing on key workplace skills including communication, leadership, teamwork, and creative thinking.

Our Commitment to Athlete Development

At FutureProof, we recognise the challenges athletes face when planning for their post-sport careers. Our mission is to support athletes in achieving long-term success beyond their athletic careers through structured guidance and business support. We believe that integrating practical work experience with competitive sports is essential for equipping athletes with the skills and experiences needed to excel in their future careers.

About Josh

Josh, a professional rugby player currently competing in Japan, brings a wealth of experience from his time with Newcastle Falcons and London Irish. In addition to his sporting achievements, Josh holds a degree in Economics from Durham University, where he’s balanced his academic goals with his rugby career.

Josh’s responsibilities will include:

  • Engaging with Companies and Business Leaders: Facilitating partnerships with businesses to create work experience and flexible employment opportunities for athletes.
  • Career Insight Resources: Contributing to the development of industry-validated resources that help athletes navigate the critical question of “what’s next?” in their careers.
  • Program Development: Enhancing our existing programs by collaborating with athletes, sports clubs, and businesses.

Josh shared his enthusiasm about joining the program: “I am incredibly excited to embark on this new journey with FutureProof. Balancing sports, academics, and work has always been a challenge, but it’s crucial for personal growth. I’m eager to develop my skills while competing, enhance my profile, and when the time is right, ensure a smooth transition to the workplace.”
